The first activity I joined at NDA that truly brought me closer to the school and connected me with the very family-like environment was the dance class headed by Mrs. Duronslet. In my Freshmen year, I was blown away by the amount of support shown among everyone in the arts department and the cooperation in our cumulative performance, which was Fine Arts Night. The show was spectacular, the dancers were lively, and the singers were phenomenal.
The theme that year had to do with fairytales, which tied into the May Dance show previously at Beverly Hills High. The representation of the many different fairytales and how they all tied together into one large story was truly amazing to watch along with the performances themselves. It was like a fairytale book narration behind the dances as all levels were showcased. At the time, I was only in Introduction to Dance, which is the first level, but I still enjoyed myself quite a bit.
I originally joined dance to improve my balance and coordination for volleyball, but soon fell in love with the art even more after an unsuccessful attempt at trying out for volleyball. The best thing about NDA is that there's something for everyone. Even if you face rejection the first time, it will most likely lead you to an undiscovered interest.
Today I can gladly say that I'm glad to have joined dance because after four years, it continues to surprise me. I've advanced so much. Now as a senior in Intermediate 3 and I've never been more proud of myself to have found something to look forward to at the end of the day.
WINTER FINE ARTS NIGHT IS THIS SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10 AT 7 P.M. IN THE GYM. ALL ARE WELCOME!
