Let's recall my first day of freshman year, shall we?
I, an innocent specimen of perfection (ha!), nearly received two detentions.
1. My phone went off in class. Or the music went off. Faintly. BUT, I was sitting in the front row. Luckily for me, Mrs. Estrada thought someone was playing a game (thank you, the start of the iPad program!) and I pretended to wonder where the sound came from as I reached into my backpack and turned the phone off. I know. I'm so smart.
2. My mom picked me up backwards on Selby. And I ran across the street. And Mrs. Vogler gave us a thorough lecture about how I was breaking the rules. MY LIFE WAS OVER. I WAS NEVER GOING TO SURVIVE AS A HIGH SCHOOL STUDE- never mind. I'm a senior now.
Of course, these dire situations may not have been quite so heart stopping as I, a naive freshman, once interpreted them to be.
Three years later, let's preview my first day of school as a senior:
I get to:
For now, I'll order all of my books, continue reading Jane Eyre, and gaze longingly at the beautiful Olympic divers on TV…

Three years later, let's preview my first day of school as a senior:
I get to:
- wear a thick woolen sweater in 90 degree weather that is the best senior privilege (My name is embroidered on it in a delightful green, like a permanent name tag! YOU'LL NEVER FORGET ME.)
- see all my school friends again (A welcome relief. We now have each other to reminisce about our childhood memories of going to bed at 8:30 p.m.)
- take more AP classes. *sigh* It was inevitable.
- see my teachers, which I actually am thrilled about!
- AND realize that this is my last first day of school at NDA. It is a year of lasts, my friends, and that is sad in itself.
For now, I'll order all of my books, continue reading Jane Eyre, and gaze longingly at the beautiful Olympic divers on TV…
