So there I was in the middle of the gym, ready to run those suicides so I could show Coach Hall I deserved a spot on the volleyball team. One touch down, two touches down, three touches. Suddenly, as I was reaching the last line I had to touch, I saw the beautiful, glistening line right in front of my face. I had fallen down right in front of the line! I tried to get up but realized that my knee was hurting so bad that I couldn’t even walk on it. I thought to myself, “That’s it, that’s the end of volleyball for me.” I was beyond embarrassed as I was escorted off the court. That whole week I limped around dejectedly in realization that I wouldn’t be able to play on the volleyball team.
Fast forward four weeks: I was going through the list of seventh periods or after school classes that NDA offers and something caught my eye -- concert choir and liturgical choir. Perfect! I’ve played piano for nine years and just love to sing. It seems like fate that I found the perfect class to join. On the first day of liturgical choir I went in not knowing what exactly to expect, but soon realized that I had made the right choice in joining these choirs. Now I go in everyday looking forward to learning something new.
But it didn’t stop there. After I realized that I had so easily overlooked something that I came to love, a whole new world opened to me. It sounds cliché, but it’s true. I joined robotics and rocketry, academic decathlon, coding club, and film club. (Yes, you can probably call me a nerd.) My point is, NDA has so many diverse programs that there’s always something new to try.
When I was in eighth grade, I heard the phrase “try something new” so many times it made me want to do only what I had been doing for the longest time- volleyball. In hindsight, I’m glad I joined choir and I can’t imagine my life without it.
