Butterflies. That’s the simplest way to describe the way I felt on my first day at Notre Dame. I looked down at my penny loafers and plaid skirt and simply hoped that I would make friends that would last me a lifetime. Walking into the hallways of the Academy it was filled to the brim with girls wearing the exact same uniform. I waved to the girls I had met at orientation and my big sister, whom I met at the Big Sister Little Sister Tea. It was strange though; I realized that many of the girls had known each other from middle school or outside activities and I came in alone. I wondered if I was going to fit in. Would I soon become as close to the girls as they were already to each other? I walked into my first period with my new teacher, who would soon become one of my favorites. I sat down and looked around. This would be my life for the next four years and although I was filled with nerves, I absolutely couldn't wait.
That was my first day as a freshman and in a couple of days I will start my first day as a junior. I am happy to say that I have made those friends I hoped for and I no longer have any fear of the first day of school. I don’t want summer to ever be over, but the first day of school is always one of my favorites. I love the feeling of a fresh start. New people in your classes, new teachers, and new lockers! I finally get one of the big ones :). The first day as a freshman is probably the worst because you may get lost or may just be a little nervous, yet once you get past that first day, Notre Dame will really feel like home. First days are the ones you'll always remember, so make the best of it. Before you know it, you'll be a senior wanting to go back to the first day of freshman year.
